TARA’S ANGELS

--

A true story as told to me by Tara’s father, during an interview years ago. It still gives me goosebumps.

Angel encounters are told everywhere on earth: are you a believer, like me? For the holidays, fourteen years ago, I wrote a story about Tara Moore, destined to leave our Earth at the tender age of fifteen, via an auto accident. But her final nine days were an unforgettable grace.

Tara had bought an irresistible book about angels. She took it everywhere. Journaling in it, asking for guidance. Her loved ones believe she had a special connection with angels, and may’ve known her own destiny. She was evolving spiritually. While always kind and helpful, she began counseling her friends, too –a seemingly calling. How could humans create such turmoil, she wondered, with the loving-kindness of wise angels at hand?

The Moore family was philosophically open and supportive. But unusual things were happening. Like on the bus ride to camp where her mom Sandy was a counselor. Tara wasn’t feeling well. Laying her head in Sandy’s lap, Tara looked soulfully into her other’s eyes and remarked, “Thank you for taking such great care of me, Mom, not just for the bus ride, but for my life.” Later that evening, not feeling social, Tara stayed in her cabin, making ceramic angels for each member of her family. She was nicknamed, “The Angel Girl.”

When Tara returned from camp, she bequeathed her precious angel book to her younger sister. “Deanna,” she said, “I want you to know that I will always be your guardian angel.”

The night of the accident, Tara had made dinner for her sister, mom, and a couple of girlfriends. At the table, she gazed again into her mother’s eyes: “Mom, do you believe that when you are done with your work on this plane of existence, you can go at any time to do something more meaningful elsewhere?” Her mother struggled a reply to the eery question. “Yes dear, I do believe that might be true…”

Two hours later, her first-born would die in a freak accident less than two blocks from home. One girlfriend was driving the other one home, with Tara along for the ride. Both the girlfriends were fine, but Tara died instantly. Had she left to “do something more meaningful elsewhere?”

The grief-stricken Moore family held on to faith. Her dad Kirk told me, “everything happens for a Reason.” They continued to find clues over time about the important message of love Tara wanted to get out into the world. Angel gifts and cards poured into the Moore household, giving comfort, hope, inspiration. Even though they were going through painful adversity, they were becoming stronger and more loving–even feeling blessed. They recalled how Tara taught that angel guardians, keepers of the soul, were all around. And that in the end, love is all there really is.

Sandy was a teacher and Kirk was a real estate broker. They decided to trust their intuitions and take a huge risk. They quit their jobs and opened up a specialty shop: “Tara’s Angels.” Eventually their story made national television, Kirk wrote a book, People Mag put Tara on the cover. They opened a second store, a spiritual learning center. They told me of meeting Tara in dreams, hearing her voice, feeling her loving presence, often.

Wishing us all, each and every one, Light, Peace, Joy, Comfort –angel messengers. Shining deLight, Marcia
