E.S.P.
A hitchhiker’s guide to the psychic’s universe — from one seasoned to it, and by it, in many lifetimes
Extra Sensory Perception. A new friend had come to my house, and was checking out my art work. A silly-looking painted gourd caught her eye. She laughed out loud, ”What is that?!”
“A psychic,” I explained, showing her the “penny for your thoughts” displayed as her third eye –and the drooping antenna. A delicious exchange unfolded about our understandings and perceptions beyond the five physical senses, our E.S.P. Including what’s the “extra” in extra sensory. It could be our “sixth sense,” our intuition and instinct. Or you could argue that it‘s the subtle side of the five physical senses: visual, auditory, olfactory (smell), gustatory (taste), or kinesthetic/tactile experience (touch, feelings). We claimed four main categories of E.S.P. experience. These are clairvoyance (“clear-seeing”), clairaudience (“clear-hearing”), clairsentience (“clear-feeling”) and clairnascience (“clear knowing.”)
Many people mistakenly think all psychics are clairvoyants and that they predict the future. Not so on either count. There are many different psychic skills. And, the future is not pre-determined. It’s always evolving, influenced daily by our personal choices, and how choices are influenced. During a reading, if someone asks me what’s going to happen down the line, I look at possible or probable futures, at “lines of possibility or probability,” and report what I see. Or feel (clairsentience). Or hear. That’s clairaudience. It might be hearing words or sentences in your mind. You may experience this as coming from a spirit guide or angel or ascended master teacher –or loved one from ‘The Other Side.’ By the way, clairaudience also is the province of music composers, lyricists, singers, and writers. Clairvoyance is also the province of visual artists and visionaries.
Clairsentience is about knowing what others feel. When a parent senses that their child may be in trouble, when you feel empathy for a sick animal, when you just know your co-worker is sad even though they’re bravely pretending not to be, you are using that ‘extra’ gut sense-ability. It’s also at work when you just know your mom will love the gift you’re going to buy. Or when a sculptor is feeling into clay, or any artist whose work conveys a lot of feeling. By the way, sometimes an extra layer of fat around our bellies is psychic protection for folks who are hyper sensitive to others’ feelings.
This leaves clairnascience. This is the “extra” sense associated with your highest and deepest wisdom, your sense of connection to all living beings, and to Source. This sense is paramount in many of our realized spiritual masters.
When engaging any of the four psychic pathways, “channeling” happens: downloading extra sensory info, or bringing through inspired works. E.S.P. channeling can accompany interpreting a dream, envisioning a totem power animal, experiencing a past life, knowing just where to massage away tension, communicating with plants, picking up info about someone by holding an object they use (psychometry), or receiving a vision in the desert. We find psychics worldwide, too. How fascinating are levitating monks in Asia? Russians moving objects with their minds (psycho-kinesis)? Or Filipino healers performing psychic surgeries?
Becoming a trustworthy psychic sensitive takes practice, experience, time and patience. You want to steer away from the sensationalism around the paranormal; but you do want to touch the Mystery, feel the awe. In reading someone, I want my wisdom and kindness to prevail, to help divine their best interests. Or better yet, help them shift into a good place to divine their own path towards a better future.
